Where do families go on a Saturday morning? What events do people look forward to every year? Are there festivals where you actually see neighbors, local businesses, food vendors, musicians, and community organizations all in the same place?

That’s one of the reasons I think local events are worth paying attention to if you’re considering relocating to Midlothian VA. A house can tell you where you might live, but community events give you a better idea of what living there can actually feel like.

Midlothian itself has one particularly recognizable annual tradition, and the surrounding Chesterfield County area adds festivals, outdoor events, holiday celebrations, farmers markets, and other recurring activities throughout the year.

Here are several events worth putting on your calendar.

Midlothian Day Parade and Festival

If you want an event that feels distinctly Midlothian, start with Midlothian Day.

The Midlothian Day Parade and Festival is held on the third Saturday of October and has been bringing the community together for decades. This isn’t just a small gathering with a few booths. The festival brings together hundreds of crafters, artisans, makers, food trucks, performers, children’s activities, community organizations, and local businesses. The parade comes first, followed by the larger festival celebration.

What I like about an event like Midlothian Day is that it gives you a completely different perspective on the community.

You can drive down Midlothian Turnpike every day and see businesses, traffic, shopping centers, and neighborhoods. Come out for Midlothian Day, though, and you see the people behind all of that.

If you’re considering buying a home in Midlothian VA, this is one of those events I’d encourage you to experience at least once.

Chesterfield County Fourth of July Celebration

Summer in Chesterfield wouldn’t feel quite the same without fireworks.

Chesterfield County holds an annual Fourth of July celebration at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds. The 2027 event is scheduled for July 4 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., with activities including live music, food and beverage vendors, a children’s inflatable area, and fireworks.

For families who move here from areas where county fairs are a big part of late summer, it’s nice to know that tradition still exists.

It’s also one of those events where different generations can find something to do. Younger kids may care about the rides, teenagers may want to walk around with friends, and adults may be perfectly happy finding something good to eat and watching the entertainment.

You could attend Midlothian Day in the morning, have lunch locally, drive through several neighborhoods in the afternoon, and finish the day at one of the restaurants or breweries you’ve been wanting to try.

That tells you far more about living here than spending eight straight hours touring houses.

Don't Only Visit Midlothian When You're House Hunting

If every minute of your trip is scheduled around houses, you may leave knowing which kitchen you liked best without knowing whether you actually like Midlothian.

Give yourself some unscheduled time.
