You may go because you need tomatoes or fresh bread, and somehow you end up walking around with flowers, something homemade you didn’t plan on buying, and a conversation with a local farmer about what’s coming into season next week.

That’s part of what I enjoy about farmers markets. They aren’t simply places to buy groceries. They give you an opportunity to meet local growers and small-business owners while getting a better feel for the community around you.

If you’re new to Midlothian or thinking about relocating to Midlothian VA, visiting a farmers market is actually a great way to spend a morning exploring the area. Here are some local options worth knowing about.

Latino Farmer's Market of Virginia

The Latino Farmer's Market of Virginia is one of the most interesting markets in the Midlothian area because it combines fresh food with culture and community.

The market was founded in 2024 and brings together local farmers, Latino entrepreneurs, food vendors, artisans, and small businesses. You may find fresh fruits and vegetables alongside prepared foods, baked goods, handmade products, beverages, plants, flowers, and specialty items. For the 2026 season, the market is located at the Chesterfield Technical Center at 13900 Hull Street Road N., Midlothian, VA 23112. The current season runs from April through October on Saturdays. The market's official information currently lists Saturday hours as 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and admission and parking are free. SNAP/EBT is also accepted.

This is one I'd recommend if you want your farmers market trip to feel more like a Saturday outing than simply a grocery run.

Chesterfield County Farmers Market

The Chesterfield County Farmers Market is another good option, especially if you want a traditional market focused on locally produced goods.

You'll find vendors offering items such as seasonal fruits and vegetables, flowers, baked goods and other locally produced products. The county also incorporates food trucks into the market during the season.

For 2026, the market runs Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., May 6 through September 30, at the Chesterfield County Government Complex, 6701 Mimms Loop in Chesterfield.

This one isn't directly in Midlothian, but it's close enough that I think Midlothian residents who enjoy buying local should know about it.

Westchester Farmers Market

If you live toward the western side of Midlothian, you may also come across references to the Westchester Farmers Market at Westchester Commons.

Historically, this market has brought together farmers, growers, artisans, and other small-business owners at Westchester Commons. Available listings describe a Thursday evening market running from May through October.

Here's where I want to give you an important heads-up: I couldn't confirm a current 2026 schedule from an official market source while researching this guide.

That doesn't necessarily mean the market isn't operating. It simply means I wouldn't want you driving over based on an older schedule.

If you're interested in going, check the current Westchester Commons website or its current event listings before making plans.

What About the Midlothian Mines Farmers Market?

You may also see the Midlothian Mines Farmers Market mentioned when searching online.

Older and third-party listings place the market at 13301 N. Woolridge Road near Mid-Lothian Mines Park and describe a producer-focused market featuring Virginia-grown or Virginia-made goods.

I found historical information about the market, but I wasn't able to verify a current official 2026 schedule.

That's worth mentioning because farmers market information online can stick around for years after schedules or locations have changed. If you see a market listed somewhere, always check the date before heading out.

What Will You Find at a Midlothian-Area Farmers Market?

This is probably my favorite part because you never know exactly what you'll find from week to week.

Produce naturally changes with the seasons, and vendor lineups can change too. You might find vegetables picked recently from a Virginia farm, fresh fruit, eggs, bread, baked goods, flowers, honey, plants, sauces, prepared foods, handmade crafts, or something you've never tried before.

That's also why I don't think farmers markets need to replace your regular grocery store.

They're a different experience.

You go to see what's fresh, talk to the people who grew or made it, and maybe bring home something you weren't expecting.

When Is the Best Time to Go?

If there's something specific you really want, I generally recommend going earlier rather than later.

Popular produce and baked goods can sell out, especially during busy weekends.

On the other hand, if you're visiting mainly because you want to walk around and enjoy the atmosphere, there's no need to rush through it.

Grab something to eat. Talk to the vendors. Let the kids look around. Ask the farmers what's particularly good that week.

That's really the fun of it.

That may sound strange coming from a Realtor.

You probably expect me to tell you to spend the entire day touring houses.

I don't think you should.

If you're relocating here, give yourself time to experience normal life. Visit a farmers market Saturday morning. Grab coffee afterward. Drive through a couple of neighborhoods. Have lunch somewhere local. Walk through a park.
